The Wrong Hairstyle for your Face

bad-hair

If you are over the age of 25 you have undoubtedly experienced a bad hair cut. You know what I mean. A haircut that look so sophisticated and smart on your favorite celebrity but on you, looked like a bad wig from the high school drama department. The pain of seeing yourself in the mirror was only rivaled by your shame at having to show your face in public. Your only hope was that hats would be trendy enough to wear for the next month and a half.

Now most stylists will do their best to fix any haircut you don’t like (or at least they should). But maybe there is a way to avoid ever getting those bad haircuts to begin with. Generally, you can determine which hairstyles will NOT look good on you by assessing the shape of your face.
Depending on how round or square your face, certain hairstyles may not work. Use the guide below to help you determine which style is good for you BEFORE you start cutting.

Square Face
A square face shape usually has a strong jaw line and a square like hairline as well.
Stay away from these hairstyles:

  • Long straight hair
  • Straight bobs
  • Center parts
  • Bluntly cut bangs

Heart Shaped Face
A heart-shaped face is wider at the temples and tapers down to your chin.
Stay away from these hairstyles

  • Beehives and bobs that put all the hair at the top of the hair, creating an unbalanced look
  • Short, curly hair (for the same reason)

Round Face
A round face appears to have equal width and height.
Stay away from these hairstyles

  • Chin length cuts
  • Straight blunt bangs
  • Center parts
  • Styles with a lot of fullness at the side of the head

Rectangular Face
A rectangular face is long and slender, typically with larger forehead.
Stay away from these hairstyles

  • Long hair
  • High, piled-up hair
