Blond hair

Every day we see celebrities sport beautiful and interesting hairstyles and we wonder how we can duplicate that look. Those with long-hair wonder how they would look with short. Women who have had shoulder length hair forever consider growing it out so that they can duplicate the sweeping updos they see on the red carpet. There are so many styles to choose from for any length of hair it may be a bit overwhelming to determine which would be the best for you and your lifestyle.

Below we have outlined the various cut lengths as professional stylists define them and who is currently making those lengths popular.

Very Short Hairstyles
Very short hair cuts are those that hit at or above the ear line. Styles like the Pixie Cut worn by Natalie Portman, Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes have popularized this no fuss hair cut.

Short Hairstyles
Short hairstyles are those where the cut line is between the ear and the jaw line. Traditional bob haircuts usually fall into this category (though long bobs would be considered medium length hairstyles). Paris Hilton has been wearing her hair this way for a while and Kirsten Dunst and Selma Blair have worn them recently as well.

Medium Length Hairstyles
A medium length cut is one where the cut hits between the jaw and the shoulder. Fringe haircuts and the 1990s classic, the Rachel are considered medium length cuts. Most short cuts like the bob can be cut longer to fall into the medium length category. Katy Perry, Kate Winslet, and Felicity Huffman are currently making medium length cuts work for them.

Long Hairstyles
Long Hairstyles are any cut that hits below the shoulders. These cuts may or may not have bangs. Most long hair cuts these days have layers cut in to give depth and character to the cut. Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Blake Lively and many other young starlets choose long hairstyles because of their versatility. Long hair allows you to change your part, pull it up in an updo or back in a pony tail for different looks.
